Fundraising Ideas and Information

1. Use these photos and powerpoints to share the word with church, clubs or school groups


2. Buy fudge online: 25% of fudge purchases at the Mill Fudge Factory in New Hampshire will be donated to Ocean Academy.   Click on and you will be brought to Ocean Academy's designated fundraising page. The phrase "Ocean Academy - Belize Fundraiser" should appear in the discount code area when you complete your purchase.  You can also sell the fudge to fundraise for Ocean Academy.  Click on this link for more information. 


3. Ask for donations instead of gifts. Lisa Hencken of Texas, USA decided to ask her wedding guests to donate to Ocean Academy in lieu of gifts.  Cheryl Juska and her fiance Sean are from Hughesville, Maryland, and wed on Caye Caulker in November 2009. They also kindly asked their guests to make school donations in lieu of gifts. Linda Bolvard of Eugene, Oregon, USA, asked friends to donate 60 books to celebrate her 60th birthday.


4. Donate a percentage of your businesses profits. Najma Martens, owner of Maya Boutique in Vancouver, Canada, decided to donate her closing sale profits to help children around the world.   She divided the proceeds between helping Ocean Academy and the Shakti Project for street kids in India . 


5. Visit  businesses, both local and international, that support Ocean Academy.  Click on Our Business Patrons to learn more. 


6. Collect donations in your community. Ashleigh Hawes of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, created donation boxes for local shops to collect donations on behalf of Ocean Academy. Mackenzie Yaryura and friends are doing the same at their highschool in Florida, USA.


7. Honour your loved ones with an Ocean Academy scholarship.The Miller Family of Cobble Hill, British Columbia, Canada, funds two annual memorial scholarships for Ocean Academy students to honour Hilda and Walter Marczak.  The Marin Family of Caye Caulker, Belize, funds an annual memorial scholarship to honour Juan Clemente Marin. 


8. Organize a raffle: Cynthia Jordan of Georgia, USA is a frequent visitor to Caye Caulker.  Using prizes donated to Ocean Academy, she organized a fundraising raffle among her fellow flight attendants.


9. Recycle Capri Sun drink containers: Kindergarten teacher Leisa Adams and her class are saving the drink boxes in order to claim a 2cent/box donation.  To date they have collected 2000 boxes! 


10. Silent Auction Dessert and Coffee Event: This can be a very succesful group fundraiser. Ask local businesses to donate auction items, with proceeds going to support Ocean Academy students.  Charge a small entrance fee for the auction, and offer dessert trays and coffee (often these willl be donated as well). Display the auction items with bidding sheets attached.  Set a closing time and contact winners.
