Caye Caulker Group Volunteer and Cultural Tours

 

Volunteers play a huge role in helping Ocean Academy's financial sustainability, and broadening our students' global education.  For groups we request a $2500usd placement fee that will be applied to student scholarships, coordination costs, and project needs.  Volunteer projects focus on the Ocean Academy campus/building, but also can include Mangrove Restoration and other environmental projects, work with the primary-school children, and island-wide community projects.

 

 

Includes:

  • Pre-trip coordination (bookings and daily task organization, tailoring project needs, Q&A) 
  • Volunteer Coordinator onsite with you 24/7
  • Orientation session
  • Organization of your project prior to arrival and booking of all activities
  • Drinking water (bring own water bottle)
  • Cultural experiences program

 

For an additional fee, this could also include:

  • Water taxi to and from Caye Caulker
  • Golf cart taxi transfer to and from hotel
  • Booking of Hotel with private bath and hot water (shared accommodations)
  • Organization of Meals at a variety of island restaurants and Belizean homes; snacks provided at worksite
  • Final dinner celebration beach BBQ

 

Does not include:

  • Transportation to Belize City from your hometown.  (International airlines serving Belize: American, Continental, TACA, US Air, Delta)
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Tips
  • Optional paying activities, arranged upon request

 

 

Sample Itinerary

 

Day 1:            Arrival in Belize City, group van and water taxi transport to Caye Caulker 

Day 2:             am: Orientation to project work 

                       Introduction to island high-school students

                       Tour of high school and primary school

                        pm: Tour of Island (choice of cruiser bike or golf cart)

                        Cultural activity #1

 

Day 3:              am: project work

                        p.m: cultural activity #2

                        Dinner option: Belizean cooking class ($)

 

Day 4:             am: project work

                       pm: active sport lesson (choice of windsurf, kayak, yoga,

                       aerobics; soccer or basketball or volleyball match with locals)

 

Day 5:             Optional full-day water tourism excursion ($)

 

Day 6:             am project work

                       pm: cultural activity #3

 

Day 7:              am: project work

                        pm: Free time/shopping/packing

                        pm: Beach BBQ farewell dinner, with live entertainment

 

Day 8:              am: Project work wrap up/celebration

                        pm: Depart for Mainland and visit Belize Zoo.

                        Late pm: Arrive Spanish Creek Rainforest Reserve

 

Day 9:              Spanish Creek Rainforest Reserve

 

Day 10:            Community Baboon Sanctuary

                       

Day 11:            Flight out of Belize International Airport
