Business owners have been very supportive and generous in their support of Ocean Academy.  Many local businesses have donated raffle prizes, hired student apprentices, and hosted our donation boxes at their front desks (click here for a complete donor list).

Angler's Abroad

  • This fly shop and outfitter is owned by Principal Heidi Curry's husband, Haywood.  He books half-day, full-day, and overnight fishing trips and packages and has been in business since 2004.  Haywood partners with qualified local guides.  The shop is located by The Split.

Sea Dreams Hotel

  • This is a new waterfront hotel on Caye Caulker and owned by Principal Heidi Curry.  It is located by The Split and offers many unique features:  carved wooden sinks, soft sheets, a small, tree-covered courtyard, Mayan masks, a hotel sunset pier where Tarpon roll and Bonefish feed, sandy-bottomed swimming hole, rooftop deck for a three-sided view of the Caribbean. Heidi and her family are committed to employing local artisans, protecting the environment, and funding local education

Frenchie's Diving Services

  • Abel Novelo is owner, instructor, captain and dive master at Frenchie's, one of Caye Caulker's original dive shops.  Abel is Caye Caulker born and raised.  Frenchie's is an excellent dive shop: they offer small group sizes, the full range of PADI courses, and specialty trips too.
  • Two Ocean Academy volunteers recently enrolled in a Frenchie's PADI Open-Water Course, and Abel donated 10% of their registration.  Abel is on Ocean Academy's Board of Directors, and has generously volunteered the use of his dive boat and equipment to Ocean Academy's scuba diving class.

 

Cayeboard Connections

  • Owner Ellen Armstrong offers Ocean Academy students discounted internet for academic assignments.  Her internet cafe also donated printing of the student yearbook 2009.

 

Sirena del Mar Real Estate

  • Owners Nick and Rachel Maznek specialize in property, residential/commercial investment land and homes.  Sirena del Mar offers the largest selection of exclusive listings on Caye Caulker.  Sirena del Mar is a full service Real Estate & Development Consulting Company, dedicated to providing you with comprehensive information regarding the entire real estate process in Belize.
  • Sirena del Mar pledges to donate a percentage of each real estate transaction referred by Ocean Academy.  Nick has also volunteered his time to consult on fundraising strategies, and donated an office desk.

 

Red Mangrove Eco-Adventures

  • Belizean owner and tour guide, Carlos Miller, prides himself on guiding small-group snorkelling tours while also educating on environmental issues.
  • Carlos will donate 10% to Ocean Academy if snorkellers say they were referred by Ocean Academy.

Maya Boutique, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

  • Owner Najma Martens closed her textile boutique in June 2009, and donated the final sales to Ocean Academy as well as to a school in India

 

Shadybrook Farm, Duncan, British Columbia, Canada

  • This family-run farm is owned by the parents of Ocean Academy's Vice Principal, Joni Miller.  Her father, Steve Miller, sells fresh farm produce such as organic apple juice, eggs, free-range chicken and turkey, at the Duncan Farmers' Market.  Her mother, Dodie Miller, sells award-winning home-made jams, chutneys and preserves on the local crafts-fair circuit.   
  • Shadybrook Farm donates 10% of all sales to Ocean Academy. Steve and Dodie also personally sponsor a student's yearly tuition.  They and their family have funded two memorial book prizes and plaques, in honour of Walter Marczak (Science Award) and Hilda Marczak (Community Service Award).

 

The Mill Fudge Factory: Bristol, New Hampshire, USA

  • Owners David, Linda and son Noah Munroe met Vice Principal Joni and her parents during Christmas Break.  Both families were visiting Tikal, Guatemala. The Munroe's family-run fudge business is located in the oldest building in Bristol, NH: a 1767 grist mill.  Each batch of Scottish-inspired fudge is made from scratch. Their packaging is lovely and includes a message card.  They support many other charities in addition to Ocean Academy.
